Frame modifications

The Vmax has a shaftdrive but the frame isn't renforced at the pivot point. This causes the frame to flex. Beneath is a picture of the frame and you can see that it's rectangular shape of the frame at that point isn't good.

 Stock frame at swingarm pivot

To prevent the frame to flex I have welded some jigs in the corners. This mod was emphasized by Niels from saarloos.net , a good friend of mine. I used 3mm thick jigs and sprayed them with a can of heat resistent spray.

 Jigs welded in the corners

But this isn't enough. The engine is mounted using rubber bushings. And as we all know rubber is flexible. Under load the engine will twist in the frame. Using solid mounts the engine is a part of the frame causing the frame to be stiffer. This mod wil improve the handeling of the Vmax.

Solid mounts in stead of rubber bushings

On the left side you see the front solid mounts and those are a piece of cake to replace. You just need a jack to lift the engine and to take of the load of the nuts and bolts holding the mounts. The rear mount is a different story. This one is a real pain in the ass to replace. It's possible to replace this one without removing the swingarm, gastank and carbs but since I had to remove the tank ans swingarm to weld in the jigs I only had to remove the carbs. And even without those parts it still is a real pain in the ass to change the rear mount. This mod was also recommended by Niels from Saarloos.net
